why hasn't sports the greate till now quora

There's a bit of misunderstanding in American influence around the world. Believe it or not, the USA only slightly cares about what the rest of the world does. The US hasn't so much exported stereotypical American things (entertainment, clothing, food, etc.) so much as the rest of the world has imported it and the USA merely capitalized on other peoples' desire for American goods. Because the USA has been the world's largest free market, once a corporate entity dominated the USA, they generally had enough of a springboard to then begin meeting consumer demand outside the USA. This usually began with tippy-toeing into the Canadian and Mexican markets and thereafter to the rest of Latin America, Europe and East Asia. Again, this was never so much about trying to dominate on a cultural level, as it was just working its way in through good ol' fashioned capitalism (meeting consumer demand). To wit, the US has never been really all that concerned for cultural dominance; Americans and their companies want to make money. As my Grandfather used to say, "Making money is the American art form. Let Europe have the paintings and the pretty buildings." The US never cajoled the French into eating our Big Mac's. . . they simply liked them and McDonald's met that demand (France is McDonald's second biggest market). Same for KFC in Japan. Same for American movies, music and TV shows everywhere on the planet. The USA isn't tricking the world into buying them, the world is asking for them and the US is meeting their demand. Since the world has no demand for American Football, the US has no market to tap for that export and thus, you're unlikely to see American Football in any nation other than a niche sport. 3.2k views · View Upvoters Emilya Burd Emilya Burd I LOVE your grandfather's line:, "Making money is the American art form. Americans seem quite content to enjoy their sports and not really care what the rest of the world thinks. Aside from the heavy marketing of NBA branded hats and singlets I can't really see a major marketing push for American sport outside of America. Of course if they chose to do so I dare so they could export their sports (esp basketball) most successfully.
